East Grand Rapids Public Schools and the City of East Grand Rapids are close to coextensive, but not identical, and a Grand Rapids mailing address near the edge settles nothing either way. The district is the single largest reason people pay to be here, so it is worth confirming rather than assuming. Check the school district recorded against the parcel in Kent County property records.
Kent County- 02Lake frontage is finite
Reeds Lake covers 283 acres in a city with only 2.93 square miles of land, and the shoreline is fully built. Public launching is limited to John Collins Park with limited street parking, and swimming from city property is not permitted because there are no lifeguards. Direct frontage trades rarely, so expect scarcity pricing and a long wait.
City of East Grand Rapids- 03Permits for work on the lake
Docks, seawalls and dredging on an inland lake fall under Part 301 and need a permit from EGLE's Water Resources Division. EGLE assesses whether a project harms the public trust or other riparian rights, and some work gets joint review with the Army Corps of Engineers. Verify what is already permitted rather than assuming an existing structure is legal.

The city ties algae blooms on Reeds Lake to phosphorus running off lawns and hard surfaces. Owners near the water should expect fertilizer choice, shoreline planting and drainage to be live topics with neighbors and the city. The city holds about 11,400 people on 2.9 square miles, close to 3,900 per square mile, and the land is spoken for.
